Sponsorship Opportunities
Friends of the York Dog Park are seeking small business and corporate financial support to develop and maintain a dog park in York, Maine. Dog parks have become an integral part of community development and life and are recognized as serving a substantial sector of the population.
Non-Profit Status
The Friends of York Dog Park have non-profit status in the State of Maine. We have been approved and are currently under construction of the park at 17 Bog Road, which is town-owned land. All costs to build and maintain the park will be the responsibility of The Friends of York Dog Park while the town will allow use of land.
Dog Park Standard Requirements
Modeled after the Ogunquit, ME dog park and research of dog parks in other municipalities, there are certain standards that must be met:
- There will be a strong, weather resistant fence enclosure, approximately 1 acre in size that includes a smaller (5,000 sq. ft. +/-) pen enclosure. Both enclosures will be accessed by an entrance pen to allow incoming and outgoing dogs and owners a holding area before entering and exiting the fenced in area.
- Preparation of the land, signage, poop bag dispenser, and ample parking are also important.
Future Wish List Items
- An on-site potable water source, and additional amenities, including a small shed, benches, picnic table(s) and fetch toys and other items often found at a dog park.
How can you help? Make A Contribution or Buy A Section of Fence
We estimate that our development costs will be as much as $90,000 for materials and services. Financial contributions, as well as in-kind services, are much needed to initiate the park.
The Friends of the York Dog Park will be responsible for annual maintenance, annual insurance and upkeep of the park. Therefore, we need to have donors consider the costs beyond the initial construction. Monthly, automatic donations will help maintain the park after the park is built. This is a good option for people who plan to use the park daily, weekly or seasonally. Please contact your financial institution or feel free to contact us if you have questions on how to set up this important automatic donation option. We do plan to have a donation box at the site, but regularly scheduled donations to this fund will help us plan and budget more efficiently.
